The Shimano EX500 is a versatile, lightweight touring shoe that combines the comfort and capability of a hiking shoe with the high-performance features of a clip-in mountain bike shoe.

Superior Grip: Shimano’s proprietary ULTREAD EX rubber outsole and unique tread pattern is optimized for reliable grip on and off the bike.

Volume Tour Last: The EX500 provide optimal volume at the ball of your foot, allowing for comfortable flex when walking or hiking, while still maintaining heel security for efficient pedaling performance.

Stable Pedaling Platform: Environmentally friendly recycled nylon midsole plate efficiently transfers power to your pedals, while a full-length EVA midsole cushioning enhances walking comfort.

Lightweight Performance: Breathable and lightweight mesh upper provides a secure fit and increases airflow to keep you cool and comfortable. Speed lace and instep strap is easy to operate and delivers finite adjustability.

SPD Cleat Compatibility: Clip into SPD pedals for optimal pedaling efficiency on tough trails. Cleat pocket is further back resulting in fewer hot spots and less cleat contact when walking.

A fix to the short lace problem

"Having struggled with getting these shoes on of almost a year, including carrying a shoe horn around, I found a fix ( no thanks to Shimano). Buy a set of LOCK LACES ( online or some shoe repair places, about $10). I recommend the pro model because they are thinner ( . 19cm vs . 22-. 25) and may be a bit easier to thread through the very narrow fabric eyelets. Even so, I needed an awl to push through each eyelet to stretch it. After threading the laces thru all the eyelets, thread them thru the lock. At this point they will be longer than you want/need and will need to be cut before attaching the end clips. SO, be very careful not to cut too short or you will end up with the original problem. Open the lock and slide it as close to the end of the laces as you need to easily put the shoe on. Then add another 2-3" of lace before you cut them. Then add the clip around the ends of both laces. Bonus- these are stretch, and a red thread thru the laces adds a little color."

Laces toooo short

"Ex 500 shoes just arrived from REI. They seem to be quite nice,BUT the speed lace is so short that it is a great struggle to get my foot in the shoe. Having to use a shoe horn and who wants to carry that around. Unless Shimano can provide a longer lace, I will have to cut these off and use regular laces."

Comfortable, and well built, but might cause toe overlap.

"Comfortable but large outside dimensions. These are considerably larger on the outside than my older, also Shimano shoes. They cause considerable toe overlap on the front wheel. I tried on two sizes, so they are just slightly snug on my feet, but giant toe on the outside."

OK, not great.

"Tough to get them snug on the foot. Not very comfortable no matter what I tighten. Side to side movement is frustrating. Trying different inserts, so far the shoes are still not great. I didnt want a project. And the opening to get foot in is super small! They seem well made, but oddly designed. I am 11.5ee, and the shoe is 46."
