Off the bike capability

Whether you’re clipped in or clearing a tricky section on foot, the RX801 delivers maximum efficiency and comfort on all types of terrain with a wider contact area and built-in heel stabilizer for increased control. With a more shallow toe and heel tread compared to XC shoes, the high-grip TPU lugs are designed for the best balance of pedaling performance and off the bike stability.

Optimized for performance

DYNALAST technology delivers an optimized toe-spring section to create a smoother, more efficient upstroke - resulting in reduced energy loss and a more natural pedal stroke.

Look great - but uncomfortable

"I have tried to get these shoes to be comfortable but unable to acheive that. They are the correct size but very uncomfortable. I have tried different insoles, tension levels, all to no avale. VERY uncomfortable. I will switch to something different. Very disapointed !!"

Horrible compared to previous RX8 and sphyre

"I’m not sure how Shimano let this out of testing. I had the previous RX8 and assumed this one would be better… And in some ways (lightness only) it is but here’s why it has such a low score. … It is impossible to put on. Not only is the boa cord not long enough to open it up, but once you finally get your foot in all the material gets folded and crunched up. Even opening up the bow all the way the shoe was extremely difficult to get into without a shoe horn. The other problem is because of the poor design when you pull open the boa as much as possible to get your foot in, it creates an internal fold on the upper tongue so it twists and folds on the inside so holding it open and putting your foot in at the same time put your foot into a folded piece of material. Every time I put my foot in I have to run my finger or the shoe horn to the front of the shoe to flatten out this folded up piece of material. I feel like this went out with zero test testing. As someone who has had the last five iterations of shimano’s top of the line Road shoe (S-phyre and previous) this shoe is horribly designed. i’ve attached a photo for how it curls over… You can get the general idea, but what’s bad is even if you get your foot inside where it curls up, there’s a small softer section inside that stays curled up and you have to manually go into flatten it out every time you put on the shoes. I can’t be all negative as the shoe is lighter and does fit the same once you get it on. But I’ve never had such a hard time getting on a cycling shoe in my 20 years of racing. Shame on you Shimano."

Great Shoes

"My Sidi Dragons (last in a long line of Sidis) were feeling a little snug now that my aging feet are splaying out. Shimano came up as a manufacturer offering Wide options which I prefer. Went to a local store to figure out sizing - they ended up not having the 46W I went with. Great shoe, really wraps the foot without any pressure points when tigthening the single dial, offers L2 bidirectional Boa dials at around $300 (try to find that elsewhere). Sole is stiff but walkable. I can't bend it with my hands but walking on the SPHYREs which are stiffness 12 vs. 10 was noticably less comfortable. I wish the Wide version came in Silver but it doesn't. The Black is slightly mottled which hides a little bit of dirt and goes with any kit color."

Almost there - slightly longer than expected

"I am 5'5", 160 pounds, and typically wear an 8.5 (slightly wide). I ordered the 42 as per sizing suggestion, as I have a pair of entry-level pair of Shimano RP-1s at the same size. My foot length measures 25.7xx cm, which puts me in a 41. However, I ordered true-to-size as per suggestions and matching my RP-1s. I have roughly .75" from my longest toe to the end of the shoe. The width fit well along with the heal lock-down. I personally am not fan of having a lot of space at the end of the shoe. The build quality seems high. Hoping I can either drop down to a 41 or find another pair that fits closer to my toe."

Comfortable Gravel shoes

"First pair of Shimano gravel shoes, they are comfortable and do the job. I ordered 42 and they fit fine. I mostly ride road so coming from using Shimano RC9 they feel a bit bulky but they are gravel shoes after all."

Not very wide

"It looked like a nice product but did not fit."
